SDGs - Why?

‘By 2030, ensure that all citizens acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including, among others, through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development.’

SDGs Training - Why?

Government and local authorities have been tasked by parliament to demonstrate implementation of SDGs into their strategies, and it will be mandatory for all local councils to evidence ‘commitment’ to enable government finance to be released. This shifts responsibility to all communities and individuals to make achieving these SDGs a priority.

There is increasing urgency for organisations to ensure their colleague population fully understands their own organisation’s strategy and commitment to achieving SDGs and to commit to sustainability driving the DNA of their organisation to achieve the goals.

Education and training will encourage organisation-wide engagement and assist organisations to be able to demonstrate how the 17 UN SDGs apply to organisational targets.

SDGs Organisational Engagement - Why?

The measurement of this training will allow organisations to demonstrate engagement across their colleague population. It will also increase the rate at which organisations can achieve their own ESG targets, as colleagues at every level will have the SDGs embedded into their everyday thought process and practices.

To make an organisation appealing to both investors and consumers requires action on SDG implementation at all levels. It requires the executive management team to promote their SDG strategy to external stakeholders, through speaking out publicly about their commitment to the SDGs and confirming that they have the expertise and resources within the organisation to implement them.

SDGs - Benefits for Individuals

  • Prepare individuals to commit to more sustainable work practices how they can support the sustainability agenda in everyday life.
  • Enhance awareness of current practices throughout their workplace and around the World.
  • Identify how small changes can make a big difference.
  • Motivate and enhance awareness of organisational engagement towards SDGs.
  • Encourages individuals to participate in and have a say in decisions that impact them.
  • Support individuals to feel that positive steps can be and are being taken to address global challenges, and that they have a valid and important part to play in making progress towards achieving the SDGs.

SDGs - Benefits for Organisations

  • The SDG 17 Programme provides the perfect ‘framework’ for organisations to position all sustainability and ethical issues, including values, human rights, and global competences.
  • Programmes can be accredited giving the organisation a ‘CPD currency’
  • Programmes can be integrated into the organisation’s induction process, as engagement on SDGs is likely to become a mandatory element for organisation to demonstrate.
  • Promotes the value of diversity within and beyond the organisation.
  • Promotes a lifelong approach to learning for all.
  • Aligns to organisational policies and procedures bringing them to life.
  • Raises awareness and provides context for engagement across a range of external stakeholders to include both community and business.
  • Evidence commitment to SDGs and allows organisations to demonstrate eligibility to access sustainable finance products and reduce cost of borrowing.

What are responsible organisations doing?

  • Responsible organisations have realised the importance of the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Criteria to the financial industry, which presents organisations with the ability to change for the better by accessing sustainable finance.
  • Good practice has seen organisations adopting SDGs aligned to their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and ESG strategies.
  • Exemplar organisations have embedded sustainability as part of their DNA and have benefitted from sustainable finance and are saving millions as a result.

What added value can be unlocked?

  • In addition to a fully engaged workforce driving your organisation towards implementation of SDGs, organisations will be able to access financial opportunities and incentives that were previously out of reach.
  • Local authorities will be able to demonstrate and evidence commitment to SDGs across their communities.
  • Innovative methods of raising finance such as SDG-linked bonds become accessible.
  • Access to the trillions of dollars will become available to organisations and impact towards achieving the SDGs will be significantly improved.
  • The organisation will become more appealing to investors who are increasingly requiring evidence on SDG implementation.

What Next?

  • Get ahead of the curve by embedding sustainability training into your organisation’s CPD Strategy.
  • Increase awareness in your communities by investing in sustainability training for all staff.
  • Make a positive contribution to the global 2030 goal.
  • Become one of the many organisations to make a real demonstrable difference to the future of our planet.
